8 Liter twin cam engine, developing 185 HP.
Power is transferred to the rear by the afore mentioned factory 5 speed transmission which was a rare option.
This Euro 107, as it is known by Mercedes aficionados, is said to be one the best, if not the best driving SL of the series.
Powered by a straight 6 engine (making the front end of the car lighter than the V8) it promoted sportier handling and a better-balanced car.
The twin cam design put out more horsepower than all but one V8 Mercedes of the time.
